GMO What?

GMO What?

Last Saturday, May 25th, I, along with an estimated 2 million other people from 436 cities in 52 countries worldwide, participated in marches to support labeling of GMOs. Despite that huge turnout, you might not have heard anything about it. Why? Only a few news organizations elected to cover it.

Clearly, based on the large turnout of supporters for this worldwide event, awareness of the dangers of GMOs has encircled the globe. And yet, I am constantly surprised when someone asks me (especially my friends or family) “what is a GMO?” Simply stated, GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism.

To really understand what GMOs are and their effect on our health and the environment, I urge you to watch the documentary in this post. It will inform you, enlighten you, and hopefully anger you into taking appropriate action. The GMO issue goes far beyond the genetic manipulation of seeds. It is critical to understand what is being done and what is at stake. If, after watching this documentary, you are inspired to make a change, see the links to resources provided below the video to support you in your quest to remove GMOs from your diet.

For information on how to shop for non-GMO foods, click here. Hints: look for Certified Organic or Non-GMO Project Verified labels. Download the Buycott app to your phone. Also, Trader Joe’s brand labels use non-GMO ingredients.

To get involved with others who are passionate about this issue, or just to stay informed, “like” Moms Across America March on Facebook (men are welcome too!). There are many other groups and websites online who are also staying on top of this issue, so feel free to Google “non”GMO.”
